Clay Drinking Vessels
WED 8:00PM - The art of crafting drinking cups, 6 weeks, ($49/week)
Course Description
Want to enjoy your morning coffee out of your own handmade mug? Would you like to watch your friends sip from whiskey cups you made? Do you imagine creating the wine goblets you give your best friend as a wedding present? This class is focused on the creation of sets of drinking vessels. During this 6- week course, students will focus their creativity on designing and making a matching set of drink ware. Students will learn how to make items that are the same size, attach handles successfully, and create pots that are unified into a set through their own design. Throwing off the hump will be introduced because this technique can make it easier to create multiple forms quickly. While each set will be unique, everyone will benefit from seeing the variety of drinking forms that will be demonstrated and explored. This class will be most successful for students who are already able to center successfully and throw an even walled, well-formed cylinder. Each weekly class is two hours long - which breaks out to an affordable cost of $49/week. Class size limited to 8. Included with Introduction to Potter's Wheel: - Open studio time to practice throwing on your own each week. Please see the Student Practice page on the website for current practice hours. - 25 pounds of clay (including firing and glazing). - Basic tools for your use during class. (Bring a towel and apron if you like.) 25 pounds of clay plus glaze and firings
