Handbuilding Projects: Gifts for Giving
Create Gifts with Different Handbuilding Techniques - WED 6PM, 6 Weeks
Course Description
NO CLASS THANKSGIVING WEEK As the winter holidays approach, we are thinking about the generosity clay affords us. To best express this we thought it would be a great time to offer a class on gift items that let participants try different handbuilding methods while refining their skills through weekly handbuilding projects. Over our six weeks, we will create “gifts for giving” using slab, pinch, coiling, and Kurinuki ( i.e. hollowing out) techniques to create objects that can be given. These weekly projects will include coffee mugs, jewelry boxes, incense burners, and serving trays. For the first four weeks, the class will make a project each class that introduces a different handbuilding technique or combination of techniques. Once the class passes its halfway mark, glazing techniques will be introduced to help make your gifts even more unique. The group will also learn how different objects require different moisture management to prevent warping and cracking. All levels of experience in handbuilding techniques, from novice to intermediate, will find this class rewarding. Included with this Projects in Handbuilding: Gifts for Giving class: - Open studio time to continue working on your own each week. Please see the Practice Time link on this website for current practice hours - 25 pounds of clay (including glazes and firing fees) - Basic tools for your use during class. Please bring your own towel and an apron if you like
