Course Description

NO CLASS THANKSGIVING WEEK Do you love Giselle Hicks' amazing, coiled forms? Have you been watching every video post from Sunshine Cobb wishing you could make her cool planters? This class is dedicated to coil building, which is used by these ceramics artists to create a wide range of unique forms. We will focus on the making of coils, the building of both open and closed forms, and the surface treatments that coil building offers. This class is ideal for people brand new to clay and those who want to learn to handbuild following several courses throwing on the wheel. Each weekly class is two hours. Included: - Open studio time to practice throwing on your own each week. Please see the Student Practice page on the website for current practice hours. - 25 pounds of clay (including firing and glazing). - Basic tools for your use during class. (Bring a towel and apron if you like.) (There are no make up classes for this course. If you need to miss a class, speak with your instructor about what you will miss. Try to get extra studio practice that week, and follow any guidelines for learning what you will miss that your instructor may have for you.)
