Course Description

NO CLASS THANKSGIVING WEEK Throwing bigger shapes is a goal many of us have because it gives us more room to express ourselves. So this 6 week course focuses on the basic techniques and methods for managing and creating with larger amounts of clay on the potter's wheel. Beyond exploring forms that can be made with more clay, we will cover spiral wedging, centering bigger pieces of clay, trimming larger pieces, and glazing larger pots. This course will be most successful for the student who can already center two pounds of clay and throw a two pound cylinder with even walls. We hope to build the skills of the class members by working in increments of 3, 5, and 8 pounds. Included with this Throwing Big class: - Open studio time to practice throwing on your own each week. Please see the Practice Time link on the website for current practice hours - 35 pounds of clay (including firing and glazing) - Basic tools for your use during class. Please bring your own towel and an apron if you like
