Course Description

Continuing Wheel builds on the skills introduced in Potter’s Wheel Basics and is designed for students who already have some experience working on the pottery wheel. Over six weeks, students refine their throwing technique while exploring new forms and approaches to functional pottery. Instruction focuses on improving consistency, control, and proportion while developing a deeper understanding of shaping and finishing wheel-thrown work. Students continue practicing essential skills such as centering, opening, and pulling walls while learning how to expand those techniques into a wider range of forms. The course also introduces glazing so students can finish and fire their pieces. Each class meets once a week for two hours with experienced instructors who provide demonstration, guidance, and individualized feedback as students practice. Students are encouraged to return to the studio between classes during open studio hours to continue developing their skills. Included with Continuing Wheel - Weekly 2-hour class with expert instruction - Open studio time to practice throwing on your own each week (see the Student Practice page for current hours) - 25 pounds of clay (including firing and glazing) - Basic tools for your use during class (bring a towel and apron if you like) - Small class size (limited to 8 students)
