Monday, August 17th from 4:00-7:00PM Instructor: HanaKyle Moranz

Course Description
Every potter develops habits at the wheel. Some make throwing easier and more consistent. Others quietly work against you. Join ceramicist, licensed massage therapist, and personal trainer HanaKyle Moranz for an interactive workshop exploring how posture, movement, leverage, and body position influence wheel throwing. Drawing on 20 years of experience helping people understand how their bodies move—and her own experience as a ceramicist—HanaKyle combines practical anatomy with hands-on instruction to help you discover techniques that feel natural, efficient, and sustainable. Through demonstrations, guided practice, and individual feedback, you'll experiment with different approaches to centering, opening, pulling, wedging, and other common studio tasks. Rather than teaching a single "correct" way to throw, this workshop encourages exploration, helping you discover what works best for your body and your throwing style. Whether you're refining your technique, looking for greater consistency, or simply curious about a different approach to the wheel, you'll leave with practical ideas to continue exploring in your own practice. During this three-hour workshop, you'll: - Explore stretches and mobility exercises designed for wheel throwers. - Learn how posture, leverage, and body position influence common throwing techniques. - Experiment with different approaches to centering, pulling, and wedging. - Discuss common areas of concern and the anatomy involved. - Receive personalized feedback while working at the wheel. - Enjoy plenty of time for questions and discussion. - If time allows, explore body mechanics for trimming and handbuilding. Recommended for potters with basic wheel-throwing experience. Students should be comfortable centering and throwing independently.
