Course Description
Potter’s Wheel Basics introduces the fundamentals of wheel throwing over six weeks at Throw Clay LA. Designed for beginners, this hands-on course guides students through the essential skills needed to start working confidently on the wheel. Students learn how to center clay, open forms, pull walls, shape functional pieces, and trim work for finishing. The course also introduces basic glazing so students can complete and fire their work. Each class meets once a week for two hours with experienced instructors who provide demonstrations, guidance, and individualized feedback as students practice. Students are encouraged to return to the studio between classes during open studio hours to continue developing their skills. Class size is limited to eight students, allowing for personalized instruction and a supportive learning environment. Included with Potter's Wheel Basics - Weekly two-hour class with expert instruction - Open studio time each week to practice throwing on your own (see the Student Practice page for current hours) - 25 pounds of clay, including firing and glazing - Basic tools provided for use during class (bring a towel and apron if you like)
